I have just had my card returned from BFG well they gave me a GTX285OC+ for my 9800GX2 and i have noticed it is a little better, but i still cannot play any 3D games without laggy graphics (estimate <5 FPS) even with low settings and AA turned off.

So, i was playing about removing drivers with a cleaner and re-installing the latest versions - 3D still not working, downloaded some PhysX test software - ran it and blank screen! The other testers worked, just nothing Physx orientated - managed to get one working, but i had to re-install physx of an older version - still no 3D programs work.

Is there something that i have not done/changed that could solve my issues. I play COD/FSX/SH4 and all have the same problems - what do I do???

Any links to someone else with the same issues?

  • First, uninstall your current drivers using Windows' Add/Remove Programs.
  • Download DriverSweeper, and boot into Safe Mode.
  • Run DriverSweeper, and remove any traces of the Nvidia display drivers (you can choose to do PhysX as well, but be sure to remove the normal way before booting into safe mode)
  • Boot the system normally, and install the Nvidia Drivers, followed by the PhysX stuff.
  • Restart the system, and try running a game.

Yep did that all last night, still have the problem. I take it these are all driver related and nothing to do with BIOS settings as I have an ASUS board and it shows on BIOS a cross impeller for graphics should this be on or off?

THe old card and board have been running fine until the latest batch of MS updates for XP, im thinking now that they are the cause - i might uninstall them, but i only recently got around the unistall of DX9c by deleting with an app and then having to re-install DX via the SP3 route - damn easier than normal method of pruning files out of directories.

I have a XP OEM repair disk on order and i will try and fresh install to see if that makes any difference.

Cheers for the advice

Yep both power cables are inserted.Couldnt insert/paste the pic, but in the section you mentioned it states;-

Supports PCI-E x16 @ x1 but the cursor hover shows its currently running at PCI-E x1 v1.1

This is what i get...although now you have pointed it out it doesnt look right too me at all...what do i do now? BIOS surely?!?

I have 2 PCI-E x 16 slots on the P5K3 Deluxe with the P35 Chipset, so as looking at it P35 doesnt support PCI-E 2.0. I have tried both slots incase one is accelerated?!?

Anyway,I have trawled thru the bios and cannot find any settings manually for the PCI...and i have the latest bios installed.

All solved - Replaced the motherboard.

Turns out that after using the 9800GX2 for so long in the same case, the shear weight of the video card was mechanically supported by the socket. It was also bolted to the case with 2 screws, on removing the board i found that the videocard has bent the PCI socket so much that the connector has sheared off the link to the PCB so it is scrapped.

I think i will need to review the support for heavy video cards in future!
