Ive just bought an ati 5870 which of course lacks the physx which of course nvidia cards come with.

Looking around ive seen bfg physx 128mb addon cards, could i just put one of these in my system and have full physx function?

Help and advice is much appreciated.

no, they have nothing like that at all, well nothing the game producers care about anyway.

Whats the price vs performance of a physX card versus a cheap 8/9 series gfx card? I was wondering is it worth getting a 9600 as pyhsX card instead for the bonus that it will fold and video encode where the pyhsx wont.

9600GT is probably the minimum card you want to use. I don't know if anyone's done a recent comparison with the older dedicated cards because they aren't being sold anymore.

That said, it's a pretty big waste of time given the small number of games that actually use PhysX and the complete lack of titles that actually use it in a meaningful way. It's a shame really.

I don't think those old phyics cards work anymore, you need a NVDIA gpu for it

well if you already have the hardware for it, aka a non used Nvidia card capable of phyX than why not

PhysX cards don't work in W7, you need vista or xp.

There is a hack to get physx working with a nvidia gpu as a secondary but I think it has a few bugs not to mention you do need to get a half decent nv gpu to be of any worth which is a reasonable expense.

At the end of the day, unless you absolutely desperately need it, forget it and move on. It's really not all it's cracked up to be.

Who cares about PhysX? Why do you need it?

Exactly!

PhysX is worthless because it dosent have enough support, it dosent have enough support because not everyone owns an nvidia gpu or is willing to buy a 2nd one. Its another gimmicky technology that wont take off in its current form.

PhysX works in Windows 7 with Radeon cards if you use modified nVidia drivers. It does have some flaws but works well in general. It has no bugs performance wise although it's a bit tricky and may require using an extended desktop (which might **** you off).

I got a GeForce 9600 GSO with 96 shaders which is considered a sweetspot PhysX card for just £30 quid. I used it for some time and then sold it away - PhysX ain't worth a **** tbh. The card ran hot and was quite noisy (it was a single slot card from XFX).

There are barely two games using some of the features PhysX offers, one of which is Batman, the only game worth playing with this addition enabled.
