Pic Of The Day, December 22nd

For todays picture I thought I would stay within our own backyard so to speak (in terms of cosmic distances at least), and also try to find something that kaiowas especially would be happy to see
A true colour picture rather than a colour enhanced image.
Jupiter is a personal favourite of mine, however her moons are not something easily seen in detail by the amateur astronomer, so this will hopefully be fulfilling to many of you.

Callisto's surface has many stories to tell. The most distant of Jupiter's Galilean Moons, Callisto shows the highest density of impact craters in the Solar System, but harbors no volcanoes or even any large mountains. Callisto's surface is laced with cracks and craters from billions of years of collisions with interplanetary debris. This image shows Callisto's true colors, and was taken in November 1997 by the robot spacecraft Galileo.

A higher resolution image is available here this image is a 240K Gif image. Although of higher resolution and therefore larger in terms of file size there is practically no difference in dimensions 524x524 pixels as opposed to 433x430 for the picture above.

Cheers for that Mark, I had actually seen that one about a week ago but never included it in tonights post because it's not a "true colour" image which is the theme I was trying to achieve for tonight.

Well researched though good s'ah.(my link couldn't have given you some clues though could it )

Yeah tis a nice piccy, the site is run by a mighty nice chap as well.

Most people seem to overlook his site though, that's why I asked.
