Ok just after i thought i had finished the pc side of my build at least as far as hardware is concerned i ran into an issue, only my cpu fan/heat-sink want's to listen to the bios or speed fan.

In short i need a fan controller to stop them all running at 2000rpm and causing my ears to ring.

Is what i have been looking at as it matches and look's pretty simple and should fit my case, just thought i should check here first to see if anyone had any suggestions before i go ahead and buy one :).

Ive had fan controllers from Bitfenix, NZXT, Akasa and Lamptron.

I can say that my current Lamptron FC6 is the best one I have had. I cannot fault it really, only downside is the FC6 has 10w per channel but the FC5 overcomes that.

The FC5 is a beefier FC6 afaik and if the FC6 is anything to go by it is certainly a good fan controller

I think I'm going for an Alpenfohnn Alpine Touch but now worried it can't be controlled from my desktop.

This, the lamptron FC6 or FC5v2 would do you absolutely fine. The ONLY difference besides the difference in wattage per channel which is only 10watts and the FC6 has 20w rating which is enough to power ALL the fans in my pc on 1 knob, is that the FC6 displays RPM and Temp read out from the probes, and the FC5v2 you can opt to not use the probes and just have it read the voltages of your fan.

i power 2x 120mm fans on each channel and the last one powers a 200mm fan, like i said if i chained them up with fan splitters i could use them all on one knob so either lamptron FC's will do you splendedly.

The lamptron FC5v3 is out now, its a lot more expensive and as far as I can tell all that is different is that it displays both voltages and temp read out along with RPM not worth it IMO but some might like it.

I wouldn't go with a touch screen and really lamptrons quality is fantastic, you would be mad not to get one!

but if you have a case with a closing front door like i have then touch screen is the only option.

According the the Lamptron manual iirc its 10w per channel even though ocuk state 20w and lamptron state 20w on their site for the lamptron FC6

I really would discount touch screen controllers, majority have low wattage, slow to respond and are generally more expensive than their manual counterparts.

The Akasa fc6 unit I have had (its currently in my wardrobe) It had problems controlling the fans because it would randomly shut off, no power supply issues as I had a pump running off the same molex cable perfectly and even when on its own cable. When it turned back on it would turn all fans to 100% for a few seconds which as you can imagine is annoying.

I had a Bitfenix controller for a while. its certainly not bad, controls the fans fine but the buttons are fiddly to control sometimes and they also fall off and can be lost easily, I have that in my wardrobe too haha.

issue i have is that as i have a fractal r4 the bay within which the controller will sit is behind a door which has sound proofing so the nobs would prevent the door from closing

Then based on my experience with controllers I would go for the Bitfenix Hydra.

It does have the added benefit of turning on and off the leds on the bitfenix fans even if the fans themselves aint nothing to shout home about.
