A few years ago in Spain on a family holiday two lady gypsies approached me and the family offering carnations for 'uno peseta'. Knowing this coin didnt exist immediately aroused my suspicion but both my wife and Aunty stupidly opened their purses for these women to show them a one peseta coin.
Split by who to watch I kept an eye on the Aunty who screamed out as this lady tickled her with a carnation. As I look around at my wife lady number 2 has seen my wife is now looking over to my aunty and has taken a wad of 5000 pesetas.
I immediately clock this and she slips the cash into her bra. Now both ladies were in their early 50's or late 40's and dressed in the normally Spanish gypsy black all in one dress. I immediately, in broken Spanish, tell the one women to return the money. My wife then checks and shouts its gone. Both ladies start screeching at me so I clock the one on the chin and rummage into her bra and take back the money. The other lady is in total shock.
We then make our way to the local police station where I filed a report, but didnt mention the method used to get the cash back. Out came a book full of these Spanish ladies that are well known to the police. I pick two randoms and leave the cops to do whatever they do in Spain.
Towards the end of the holiday two more gypsys were on the same street selling carnations. However, these were very young probably late teens. As soon as they saw me they shouted some abuse and fled. I had a feeling over the period of my holiday I had been watched by them. However no harm done and the cash wasnt taken.
