So, which is which

A) Konica Minolta Dimage X1 (8MP, compact)

B) iPhone 5 (8MP, phone)

c) Nikon D5100 (16MP, DLSR)

All photos taken using auto settings on highest jpeg quality and reduced down to 1024*768 using tinypic.

Excuse the horrendous choice of picture and lighting - I'm feeling lazy!

And no cheating!! and yes, I have realised something about one of the pictures but I can't be fussed doing it again!

At first I thought this was some kind of weird spy camera spotting test.... like there is a camera secretly hidden in the pen, or the keyring.

Raikiri was indeed correct! Blindingly quick if just deciding by eye.

In all honesty I think the 1st picture (the Konica) looks by far the best of the 3... so much so that i'm thinking of returning my D5100 :/ From comparing many similar pictures I cannot see how a D5100 takes considerably better pictures - unless of course I'm looking at things all wrong!

Does everyone actually think the 2nd (the D5100) looks the best out of those photos?

Yes, but it's hardly the best comparison. They've been shot using the built in flash on what I'm guessing was auto mode, that's not how SLRs are meant to be used. Not to mention tinypic scaling sucks.

Despite that there's less noise and the white balance is more accurate on the D5100 shot.

Yeah the D5100 is excellent, as is the D5200 but at its current price the D7000 is a much better buy.
