Picked up the Megane

After what seemed like the longest 1.5 weeks ever, I picked up my R26.R this morning. I am so thrilled with it, really is fantastic to drive! I've already wussed out and fitted speakers and a headunit (fitted a crappy spare one whilst I wait for my new one to arrive!). Here are some quick snaps I got before I had to go off for another drive in it:

Nice motor, but why do the french always make horrid interiors (dashboard and wheel), they look the same as the basic models.

With those seats you would expect the dash to be like the interior of a BTCC car, ie with switches, buttons and lcd displays. Really needs a LCD instrument display.

That is an incredible amount of weight to lose, just looked up how they did it:

Lightweight DNA To improve the power to weight ratio, the Mégane R26.R has been on a strict diet, losing 123kg compared to the standard R26. This has been achieved by the removal of:

* Rear seats and seat belts
* Passenger airbag and curtain airbags (the driver’s airbag remains)
* Climate control (air conditioning remains as standard)
* Rear wash/wipe and heated rear window
* Front fog lamps
* Headlamp washers
* Radio/CD player
* Most of the soundproofing


Other new elements are:

* carbon fibre bonnet
* tailgate and rear side windows in polycarbonate
* Sabelt seats with carbon fibre shell and aluminium base
* Rear spoiler
* Optional titanium exhaust
* Optional roll cage

Hmm yeah, would be interesting to know if they were Xenons still.

Nahh they're just standard halogens, the black bits are just grommets, the R26 comes with xenons and has this little stalks poking out to wash the headlights.

I'm well aware the back of it is pretty hideous, but none of that matters really, it's just an awesome drive. Feels so fast too after just being used to my van and the volvo for a long while
