Well following on from this

I picked up the Xsara VTS, agreed on an extremely good price for it. It was in absolute mint condition. Its very much a sleeper, but put my foot down and it roars into life :D

Pics from the previous owner, will get some better pics up. Interior is spotless.

Bit of a heavy clutch which will need getting used to and the steering is adjustable which is great. Seats are very comfy, especially good for long drives.

Nice buy, the colour isnt the most popular for some people (i like it), but hey, its better than a red one.

Same as mine :)

Clutch is heavy because the cable goes right past the zorst and it bends very sharpley into the gearbox. You can replace it but it does not last .
If you get air bag problems check the connector under the seat...cures it most times .
If gearbox is clunky its worn linkages.. Unadjustable so they have to be replaced .
Also check where the main fuel line goes into the fuel injectio rail ..The small section of rubber hardens and splits which then spits neat fuel all over the zorst . had it happen twice to me (once at well over the legal limit on the way back from norfolk ...Luckily i had just pulled over and smelt fuel .) second time was outside the house ...it basically emptied 1/2 of optimax in 5 mins all over the engine/bay/floor )

Other than that great cars...And suprise a lot of people as they dont look like the sport version .

Thanks lads, I really like it too. The colour seems to be common, seen quite a few VTR's like it. In the flesh it doesn't look so bad.
Persil, thanks for the Info, already signed up to the xsarasporsctlub site, great handy info there. Also about the clunky gearbox, I just thought it was normal, doesn't really sound out of place, gear change is smooth. How much is this to sort if it is needing sorting? Will be taking it in for a cambelt change ASAP as i don't think its been done. Records are somewhat sketchy but nothing .g
Also where you get those skirts from? they really suit it well. :)

I seem to have wide feet too as i keep hitting the footrest next to the clutch, if i move my foot in i hit the brake :o Might need to chisel it off :p
Would have like the gas pedal to be more heavier, its a little light for my liking, previous sportier cars I've driven have been very hard.

Hasn't been lowered but thinking about it. May well be getting some better allows for it.

Mine is lowered and i personally think it ruins the handling . (I never lowered it ) .
Also if it has P6000 on it then it gets very scary in the wet . I had my cambelt done at 55k . Cost me £275 including a full service and fluids change at an independant . Citroen wanted over £500 just for the cambelt .
Brakes are cheap to change and quick to do ... Zorsts can be expensive .

Mine has the option factory body kit but with lowered suspension it hits and runs on everything ...cambers on roads /speedhumps/kerbs/leaves (lol)

Enjoy it

Well i got the service stamps so going to start ringing the garages that did them see if they can find my car in their records and let me know if they did the cambelt as part of the service. The log book just has the stamps on them without anything else. Doesn't state *** specifics...

A lot of people on the Xsara forum have had their clutch cable replaced and has improved matters considerably so might look into this as well. Up for a service too. Might just get the whole lot done. Cambelt, Tensioners (if needed) same with water pump. Get a fluids flush too while they are at it. Probably looking at over £400 for the lot! :(

Tensioners do need doing, that's what normally fails, the belt isn't the problem. You need:

Belt,
Tensioner,
Roller,
Water Pump.

You might aswell get the AUX belt changed aswell while they're down there.

Changing the clutch cable can make it better but then again they do have a nice heavy clutch as standard or maybe it's on it's way out. If it is REALLY heavy then under the pedel they're a spring you can remove to take away some resistance :) (I've not done this as mines fine but apparently be careful you don't take an eye out!).

And yes ditch those p6000 ditch finders ASAP! :p

Yeah my brothers clutch is VERY heavy on his GTi-6, to the point where I hated driving it and after a few minutes had a knee ache. And I drive a Civic VTi which isnt exactly a soft/light clutch :p - you can replace a ratchet or something to solve it cant you?

Ive driven 3 306's (poor me) and they all have had a solid clutch. All because the cable is right next to the exhaust. Going for a 306 to my Fiesta was crazy. Nearly put my foot through the floor.

Real sleepers those Xsara VTS's, I've not seen one in the flesh..they don't look overtly sporty but they have some performance.

The clutch on my VTI is heavy, even though its hydraulic (I'd guess it is given the clutch fluid resevoir :o) but on the Micra I drove before that, it was a full calf workout doing any sort of town drive. I wouldn't have a car with a cable clutch again.
