Hi all using snow leopard, Have a folder with pics inside. In this there are other folders IE London, from when we went to London ETC.
Is there anyway you can rename all the pics inside each folder at the same time?
I remember when i used to use windows you could edit them all and call them say London, then they would be called. London, London (1) ETc. Is there any way to do this ?

Thanks

Name Mangler will do this, free app :)

Also if you put them in iPhoto, when you export them you can set it to do the same sort of thing. If they're personal pictures there's no reason not to put them in iPhoto.

Not got Iphoto installed, seems very odd to use. But i have to admit i have not given it too much of a try.

Odder than keeping everything in folders?

I suggest giving it more time, get yourself out of the Windows mentality of bundled software being awful and you having to do everything yourself to have it done properly.

Give it a chance :)

It might be easier to do this with Name Mangler, but you can use an automator script for this.

Open up a new workflow in automator and drag all the files you wish to rename into the workflow window. Now look for an action named "Rename Finder Items" in the actions column and drag that into the workflow window. Choose the "Make Sequential" option from the list box, select the "new name" radio button and enter a base name i.e. london. The rest of the options are self explanatory and click run when you're ready to go. I suggest trying this on a copy of the folder just in case you screw something up.

Basically the OSX Finder is crap and the folder management options are limited.

Hello again, just re installed Iphoto and thought i would give it a try. Just a quick question, I have a folder in finder called pics (which is where all me photo's are kept) I have used Iphoto and imported all the pictures from the pictures folder into Iphoto. Can i delete the pictures folder? Will the photos still be in iphoto?
When i say delete them i will save them to my external hdd.

Thanks.

Finally figured out how to do this, works well. Thank you very much.

Have a look in the iPhoto preferences and make sure it's copied them to the iPhoto library and as long as it has then yes. Or right click on a photo and choose show in finder, if that leads you into your iPhoto library then you can do what you like with the source pics

Hmmm its got the box ticked copy imported items to iphoto library but it i move the original files to usb stick the pics are no longer in Iphoto.
