What do you use to make the borders on the pictures that members post on the forums?

I have a few pictures taken with my Kodak easyshare LS633 digital camera..(only 3.1 mega pixals but it does the job) and would like to post them on here for C&C.

For me, in Photoshop CS, I right click on the title bar of the image, goto canvas size tick relative and then add 100 pixels to both height and width. You can select the colour at the bottom of the box too.

If you want to apply anything to the image and not the border, another trick is to first ctrl+a to select all. Ctrl+C to cut the image, then ctrl+v to paste it back as a new layer. You can then do the above trick to create your border. After that you are free to apply any filters or layer effects you want. For example, to have a thin white border around the image on a large black border, I double click the layer, which brings up the effects box. I then select stroke, set it to white, and position to inside, and you have a neat border

That is how cyKey describes the process in the sticky
