A piece of software to have in your arsenal is, Gspot! Despite the bad choice in name its a great stand alone bit of kit. You just load your video file on to it and it gives you all the information about that video, including what codecs are needed and whether or not you have them installed!

But the pack Baked has posted should be all you need! But just and really out of interest here's the link to GSpot.
