Hi guys,

Got two pictures I need framing. Nothing fancy, just a thin black ash effect frame would do. Thing is, they appear to be unconventional sizes... the first picture is a hand drawn painting and the other is a signed sports memorabilia picture.

The approximate sizes are: 410mm * 310mm and 510mm * 405mm. I'm kind of hoping to avoid the highstreet and buy online :D

Can anyone point me in the right direction, I'd like to be getting something off the shelf and not have it custom made. Oddly, the painting actually came out of a smashed frame and I think that was off the shelf?

Thanks.

Yeah, depending on how odd sized they are use a mount to get them to fit into a standar frame if you really don't want to go custom. Personally I'd recommend a custom frame place. They probably aren't going to be any more than a reasonable off the shelf one and you get so much more choice on what frame and sized frame you want.

Liking these guys a LOT! Have you had experience of them out of interest?

I personally don't have any experience with them myself, but used to work in the framing industry and can tell you that the mouldings and mountboard they use is top quality. Whether their workmanship is, is another question

Thanks guys! So when building a custom frame do I allow for anything on top of the actual prints size?

For example, my first print is 410mm * 310mm, so do I get a frame that size to fit it or do I allow for a little extra? Apologies for the naivety of my questioning :p

My honest advice would be go o a local place and get it done, you can talk through the options see the effect of different cut outs and materials next to your actual print and also get real glass no acrylic that a lot of online places won't send due to weight and fragility issues.

Already on order pal... I'm quietly confident though, they were excellent with my pre-sales enquires! I'll report back here with some picies when they arrive ;)

I presume you got a mount as well? I'd normally go for something around 2" in size around the picture. Depending on the thing to be framed one with no mount can look very odd (thinking photos and paintings, film posters would probably be ok).
