Right...for the last two days there's been a pidgeon wandering up and down the terraces outside our building.

It looks bright and healthy and it has a ring on it's leg...So I'm assuming that it's a lost racing pidgeon. I've never seen a 'feral' one with a ring before...

It's quite friendly too but flew 'away' (the wind's really strong - it took off and blew about 30' down the terraces where it landed again) when I got too close to it.

And it keeps coming and staring at me through the french doors when I'm sitting on the sofa.

Any advice?

Call the RSPCA? RSPB? RSPAM?

Ordinarily I'd just leave it...but it's kinda freaking me out.

I used to have a really fat pigeon that used to smash into our birdbath instead of just landing on it. Then it would take about 5 minutes of furious flapping and running to get itself back in the air again. It was extremely fat.

A cat eventually killed it, maybe you could put a cardboard cut out of a cat at your window to scare it off.

I got asked today by a friend whether pigeons lay eggs or not..i laughed at her and asked her to imagine a pigeon going into labour.

I am right though aren't i? They do lay eggs? :o

The very fact that you had to ask that makes my brain hurt :p

If it is a racing pigeon then you should probably just leave it be, I dont think that the RSPB will come out for a pigeon even if it is a racing breed.

KaHn

If it's got a ring on it, it's almost certainly owned by someone (racing pigeon etc), if you can see what the ring says there should be a number to ring (do a google for racing pigeon clubs) which will let you contact the owner.

Yea, we had a racing pigeon in our garden once, rang up the society, but they said just to leave it. Sometimes they get confused, or tired, and sit around for 3-5 days and then fly on.

Ours left after about 4 days :)

If you can get it though, you can make a note of the number and pass it on :)

IT'S STALKING ME!

I moved from the living room to the spare bedroom...It was on the terrace.

Now...the terraces can only be accessed via the living rooms of the flats in the building...And there's a 15' drop all around.

I just opened the blinds behind me to let some light in and it was standing there...staring at me.

then it stalked off.

Got a couple of pics - will upload in a minute...

It seems to like walking :/

Maybe its like that children's book "The Lighthouse Keepers Lunch" But with Penski in a flat and a pidgeon instead of seagulls.

As I recall the trick was to send out a picnic basket with a red chequer teatowel over the top concealing mustard sandwiches within. This then sent them packing. Do that!

shame you can't catch it mate, then get hold of local pigeon racers and see if they have lost one. Although like other have said might be an idea to just leave it.

I remember where I used to live before in Carharrack, the cat we had at the time brought it in, had a ring on its leg and all. My parents managed to release him from the cat, got hold of the local pigeon people who rung the poor things neck

If you managed to contact its owner..

He would just neck it,.. its no use to him anymore because it didnt fly home :(
