Bought a massive gammon joint at Christmas but I couldn't find a pan big enough to cook it in so cut it in half and froze it, I did this with the other half so this one is my second go at Pork & Coke.

Recipe is all over the place on the net mostly by Nigella.

Start off with 2.2kg of smoked gammon from the butchers

I've done something similar.

Gammon is nice done in a similar fashion :)

Looks pretty damn nice though :p

Looks lovely!

Gammon, Mash, Veg and gravy is one of my favourite meals. Unbeatable.

However, I usually have cabbage. Goes so well with the rest.

Those spuds are ready for planting!

Could you not just keep one in a pot?

*I've no idea how big these grow.

I've been thinking about getting some half whiskey barrels but it's not cheap and trying to spend less this year.

Want 3 cider trees, crab apple, plum, goosberrys, blacuurent and a pomelo (Asian sweet massive grapefruit type thing)

I could do, I've though about buying a load of half barrels as I want to grow a few things.
Some cider trees, goosberrys, plumbs.

Would also like a blackberry plant. But it's a weed and goes wild so would need. To see. How trainable they are.

I grow a blackberry plant in a big container. Fruits lovely and is easily manageable through careful pruning. You have to cut them back every year anyway to encourage new fruiting shoots.

Cost for plant and soil is biggest.

Anyone now some cheaper alternatives to huge pots half whiskey barrel size.
And how would you fill them with soil, solid is stupidly expensive.

Yes mate. Tub Trugs.

Brilliant things. 75ltr ones for about £12. B&Q multipurpose compost. 180 litres for a tenner. Not expensive in my book.

 *goes off to search there web*

Wow 120litres at home base for £7.99
Please tell me why I've been spending like £5 for ten litres and why haven't i noticed this before.

B&Q. 125ltr for £6.98.

£5 for ten litres is criminal. Who the hell was charging you that?

B&Q

Check out prices of their small bags. actually probably wasn't 10litres but still.
I feel a spending spree. When ps best time to plant trees?

Now can you show me one more trick and find somewhere selling pomelo plants

The best time is really supposed to be towards October. They are planted then pruned back. This gives them the winter to take hold and establish themselves. Although personally, I've planted them at all times. As long as they are taken care of, they will be fine.

Do you know how big Pomelo trees are? they are massive. Not a container species. Besides, citrus trees have to be overwintered indoors. Would be a big struggle with a pomelo :D

If you are insistent though, there are many citrus specialists throughout the UK. Just give them a call and see what they recommend.

As for the blackberries. look for a variety called Navajo big and early. Very easy to care for, great in containers, long and early fruiting season and huge fruits.

A plant will cost you about £15.

its cheap because its not filtered as good as the expensive brands some people have found glass in them and they often come with blackfly eggs so not good for indoor use :P

great for outside though but i wouldnt use it for indoor houseplants

Never had that problem myself, but you can always filter it yourself.

Personally, I always look for compost with added John Innes.
