Ok, the heads up is....
....the other day i overclocked my rig to what now appears in my sig below.
Today i decide to put in a brand new Zalman CNPS9500 AT
I put arctic silver v on it by applying a small pea sized blob in the middle, covering my finger with cling film and using one directional motion smeared the paste over the cpu. Seated the cooler as per instructions and rebuilt the rig.
Oh, i also changed out the ram from the SuperTalent PC5300 for OCZ PC2 6400 Reaper EB Edition 4-3-3-15. I checked on the website that the ram voltages should be 2.0v.
So, right now my settings are (as read by EasyTune):
CPu speed = 3149MHz
FSB = 358
CPU voltage = 1.36
Multiplier = x9
Ram Freq. = 875
Ram voltage = 2.0v
Bios reports that the ram is at 2.5
Ran Gigabite's easy tune to check temps whilst running Orthos and CPU-Z.
My cpu temp now idles at 33-35° (slightly higher than the stock cooler), but under load in orthos rockets up to 64°.
I haven't altered the ram timings by pressing ctl+f1, although i did look at it.
I don't get it, my stock retail cooler never went above 54°!!! Admittedly it was at 3006MHz not 3159MHz, but still, with a much better zalman you would think it could compensate.
Another thing is, on the DS4, there is a PWR_FAN (with 3 pins), a SYS_FAN with 4 pins and a CPU_FAN with 4 pins. I plugged the zalman (the connector has 4 pins btw) into the CPU_FAN and it didn't even seem to turn on. The cable hardly reaches the SYS_FAN, so i'm using the PWR_FAN (as i usually do) with one pin hanging off unconnected so to speak. It works, but should i be using one of the other 2?
Not totally sure what i'm doing wrong here. So your greater knowledge would be most appreciated.
Thanks
