Another thing to consider is that people have made similar "upgrades" on here recently and have ended up really dissapointed with Piledriver's performance.

Hmm, I have heard excellent things about the 8350, 16 5 star reviews on ocuk all saying how good it is, im confused![]()

WoW likes Piledriver more than Phenom;

And it is incorrect to say Phenom is better core for core, it isn't - it is, however, better clock for clock. Piledriver comes at a higher stock frequency and TENDS to overclock to a higher frequency than Thuban, though.
I'm surprised to hear this, every review I've read on 8350 has been 5/5 and absolutely stunning, some people have said that it tears phenoms apart and even competes with some high end intels in some respects![]()
He is not putting it in the right perspektive. The 8350 and 8320 is both good CPUs with solid performance. But upgrading from a 6 true core 1xxxt will not yield an impressive difference, hence the dissappointment. We are several who have said this over and over. Doing the research before buying is always a good idea.
Perhaps I'd be happier if I had more luck overclocking the chip, but On Auto volts it isn't stable over 4.2GHz and using an offset makes it lock-up the PC. I'm not interested in using Manual voltage.
Perhaps it is the motherboard then or your LLC settings, I can successfully run +0.062V offset (1.392V under load) at 4.6GHz. Crosshair 990fx but also previously on M5A99X.
I was probably one of the first, if not the first to buy an 8350 from OCUK (23.10.12). I did not do a lot of research for this reason, there were a few reviews but no serious overclocking reviews at the time.
I did notice an improvement over my 3.8GHz 1090T. This was not massively overclocked and the jump in frequency certainly helped. I thought and still think that it is a better CPU than the phenom II although that is personal opinion and others may differ. A lot of the numbers are subjective and it is user experience in the end that counts.
If your phenom II x6 is at 4.5Ghz then you only reasonable upgrade path is Intel to be brutally honest (And at some cost).
(As a side note, if you play Planetside 2, then the only decent option is Intel unfortunately.)
