Regarding bike insurance, if you don't have pillion cover, is your insurance void if you ride 2 up? Or are they just not covered for injuries etc in the event of a crash?

Probably correct, but worth the check. For example (not the same I know but suprised me anyway) my bike insurances specifies it's kept in the garage at home. If it's stolen from outside my house then I pay additional £500 excess. I assumed they just wouldn't pay out at all. But in the case of pillion, I'd guess that insurance would be voided. But pillion cover is usually cheap or free, so why not get it just in case you ever want to ride two up?

insurances are odd things as most of mine have had a reason to decline but always paid out when i'v needed them. HOWEVER ifyou knowinglyput down 1 person only and don't include pillions but you take them, they have every right to void the policy and it might addect the other person claiming too if they're left unable to work.

in cases like this i take upmost responsibility to ensure the pillions covered as they are my responsibility no one elses. i'd hate it if they got screwed over because of me and they didn't have any idea why.

True. Just running a few quotes on a 2000 CBR600F Sport for my first big bike, seems to be hardly making any difference with or without Pillion cover. One company is coming out £2000 cheaper than everyone else though for some reason!

Which company is giving you the better quotes, and why are companies quoting you >£2000?! Are you 17 and do you live in the bronx?

Using my existing details (17 years old, current address), but with a full licence and one years no claims, which I will hopefully have when I'm shopping for a big bike in March.

Carole Nash want £3100 with £900 excess! I'll look at it closer to the time, looks like I'll be on my 125 stuck at 55-60mph for longer than I thought..

600cc sportsbikes were never going to be cheap with a maximum of one years experience/NCB aged 17.

You would be better off looking at bikes like the SV650 if money is a concern.

Been considering the Yamaha FZ6/Fazer too or insuring a sportbike from March - September, and my 125 commuter from September - March for bad weather.

I got a quote of 120 quid for my first bike policy on my Honda Monkey! (adrian Flux bike section)

Wooo :) They even asked me if i wanted to pay by installments :D

it's not very often, if ever, i recommend insurance companies but here's my view:

AA insurance - great price but complete ripoff if you have to cancel a policy as they make you pay the full year in full.

H&R insurance - i had my bike insured with these and they have been brilliant. before i came out of hospital it had been settled for a very good price and the optional health insurance i took out if still ongoing. recommended due to the fact i was incapacitated and they could have easily fobbed my off for at least 6 months!
