First of all hi to everyone on OC forums, as you can see I'm pretty damn new to all this stuff and I've already learned so much just by reading various people's threads on here, nice to see there are people out there willing to help noobs like me!

I'm looking to putting together my first build, been doing a fair share of research and have come to a decision about a few pieces about the rig I want.

Looking to build this late next month/start of October.

My budget is £1200, this is only slightly flexible, maybe upto £1250 depending on any extra I am able to save before I order everything.

There are a few things I'm set on, basically that I'm building around an i5-2500K 3.30Ghz CPU and an MSI 570 1280MB GPU, 8GB of RAM for a bit of future proofing and an SSD and Win 7 64 bit.

There is nothing to scavenge from my old pc since quite frankly it is ****.

As a result of this the budget needs to include everything, yes everything, I've put together a spec for myself but there are still a few things I'm unsure on and will explain these a bit lower down.

Pretty sure for the extra bit of money it's worth me getting the gen 3 MOBO although a part of me is wondering whether i'll be upgrading it anytime soon, certainly not for another year anyway apart from perhaps another GPU in SLI.

I want the PSU to be modular and of decent quality as I've read not to skimp when it comes to PSU's and I hate cable clutter and I think around £100 is a good price to spend on one, no?

The case is up for debate, want one which isn't too difficult to work in so any feedback from someone who has worked with one of these would be a HUGE help :)

Looking to spend around £150 on a monitor perhaps a bit more, (this is where the budget could be stretched but don't want one too big as not the biggest desk and could dual in future).

Keyboard and mouse were chosen as they fit the budget nicely and heard some good things about the sidewinder x4 and liked a wireless mouse.

I realise that this is a long thread but when it comes to my first build and spending this sort of money on a pc I'd like to be as thorough as possible!!!

Any comments or little alterations or completely different specs are all welcome :) I look forward to reading anyone's suggestions and again another HUGE thanks to anyone who comments on this thread!

Cheers everyone.

if you are buying in late september then prices are very likely to have changed, so it would probably be better to make a thread then.

as for what you have chosen its all looking very good. only a couple of things i'd change:

graphics: the MSI Twin frozr 570 is cheaper than the card you chose and has a far better cooler so i would go for that instead

PSU: i would take the OCZ-Z series 850W 80+ gold PSU over the antec one. theres nothing wrong with the antec one, but the OCZ is far more energy efficient, so it will save money on the electric bill.

also, do you need a mechanical hard drive, because you havent put one in the build.

slightly surprised at the lack of custom cooler in there too.

everything else you've chosen is great :)

*edit*
you could also save a whole pound if you go for a cheaper DVD drive

Firstly thanks for the reply Reaper 392 and thanks for your comments,

I meant to put the Twin frozr in there as you're right it's about £5 cheaper,

I looked at the OCZ PSU and couldn't see if it was modular or not or maybe my glasses are blurry???

As for the custom cooler, I was looking into that, perhaps it would be better to get the OEM version of the i5 and a custom cooler but wasn't looking to overclock the PSU straightaway as like I've said I'm pretty new to all this business.

I appreciate that the prices will have changed by then just been wanting to get a rough idea of what I should be getting for my money :)
