As computer hardware is only getting more expensive (like £600 graphics cards just for home users) maybe having a PIN number that can be turned on and off on each piece of hardware would be a good idea. (like password on a laptop hard drive)
The PIN could activate something simple that switches it on or gives it the extra power needed to fully start up. If items were stolen they could not be used hopefully reducing crime. Items could be pin locked until buyers get the item and ask for it.
Obviously there would be an option to turn off the PIN(s) as it would be a nightmare entering 10 PIN numbers to switch on your computer
