Pine skirting - what finish?

I have some deep pine skirting in the living room. I don't want to paint it, I'd prefer to use some kind of varnish/stain/wax to bring out the tones in the timber and add some depth and gloss to finish.

Any recommendations? I'm wary of traditional varnish as I know it yellows with time.

I cant comment on pine as i want to get rid of all the pine in the house that the previous owners installed! Gloss varnish looks bloody god awful!

sand any gloss etc off and get yourself some wood wax or stain depending what wood colour etc you like or do the usual paint white :D

Most oils and oil based varnishes will tend to turn the timber slightly yellow and then darken with age. There are water based varnishes that claim they don't, but I haven't tried them. The Pine will yellow naturally no matter what finish you use unfortunately.

That's just as bad :p I'm going to get rid of all pine skirtings, surrounds and doors room by room and get them replaced with oak

Yeah I know pine goes yellow over time anyway, I think I just want to darken the wood a bit and give it a warmer tone.

I used Colron antiquing wax on ours, it gives it a nice colour which keeps well but it is a flat finish.
