Ping Issues

Just a small niggle really.

As an online gamer, like plenty of us. I like to play on the available public servers. I have recently upgraded my M/board from a DFI to an A-bit NV8 so that I could also invest in a PCI-E GFX card.

My problem is this - When scanning the range of available publics I do not get anything like a true ping return from the servers (lowest returned ping is normally 300). I have not seen this problem before and am at a complete loss. When I actually connect to a server my ping is fine, conn is stable and I have no issues at all. Its just seems to be the browsing aspect.

Also I do not have this problem on my other comp (which the old DFI is now in) or my laptop. All of which connect to the same router. (I Dont use wireless either)

Help would be appreciated!

AMD 64 3200 Clawhammer (S754)
2gb Corsair twinX 3200
A-bit NV8 mobo
ATI Radeon x850 XT PE

Yeah, usual way.

Standard network cable to a Netgear 4 port router, with built in modem. Tried all 4 ports same result on each one.

Cable is fine, works with no issues on both my other PC's. Just this one.

Thx

Try RUN > type cmd then hit OK.
At the prompt type ping -t www.bbc.co.uk and hit enter and let it run for a bit.

It may well be when your scanning for servers (you don't say how you do this) the multiple requests are flooding the network card (the usually flood the router)

I use whatever in game browser is to find them.

eg Multiplayer>Find Servers>Internet in CoD 2

Have the same effects on all the games I play. I have absolutely no problems whatsoever on my laptop or other comp tho, which makes me think it must local to my Mobo LAN connection.

Dunno if I have the bios setup properly, or the nvidia LAN settings setup correctly (everything is at default). Tried 1 or 2 voltage settings with LAN but with no luck but not really that knowledge-able.

When scanning CS server on my other old PC ping returns are true value, pinging the same servers with the A-bit PC through the same router returns pings of 400+ on servers that I only have 4-6 hops to.

Will try the pinging the bcc address when I get tonight thanks.
