Ping returns MAC address

Very odd, and it may just be that I'm tired and missing something very obvious.

If I ping the IP address of a newly built Windows 7 PC the response is normal.
If I ping the hostname I get a response with the MAC address being returned rather than the IP address.

The PC's are on a workgroup and the other PC's all respond ok.

The new PC has full network connectivity.

Advice?

You sure they're the MAC addresses and not the IPv6 addresses? Don't forget that W7 has IPv6 enabled by default and those addresses can look awfully similar to a MAC address.

Like Jonny said, are you sure its not an IPv6 address? Normally IPv6 will appear to be longer than a MAC which should be xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx

It's definitely an IPv6 address.

Ping won't return you a MAC address, you're looking at ipv6
