Ping Spiking on BF2

Whenever im on BF2 (and sometimes on other games like CSS) my ping is fine (around 20-30) but sometimes it just goes up to 400+ sometimes into 1023 on BF2. After this it goes back down to normal sometimes after 2 second, sometimes after about 1 minute. Im on a wireless connection on 512 mb line using a Linsys router. The laptop is connected via wireless and is about 2 meters away from the router. This even happens when nobody else is connected to the network and yes it is encryted.

Does anybody know a reason/cure for this?

The same on cable?
What ISP?
What model of router? What make/model wireless card?
Tried using the wireless card's utility instead of Windows Zero Config?
512 megabits a second's probably too much for the router too

You haven't got NOD32 virus scanner running by chance? I was having exactly the same problem as you until I discovered that one of the active monitors of the scanner was causing me major lag, turned it off and it works sweet now. Maybe best see if it's any background program running, like a virus scanner or anti-spyware progs, etc.
