Pingu the Hamster, gone

I have a hamster, Cream Soda :D

She's a white, dwarf russian hamster thing.

Normally have her out at some point each day, she's either moody 'cause I've woke her up or hyper 'cause she's out. Good fun just having her wander about on the desk and such.

Anyway, It's odd how attached and much you care for the little things.

:(

Thanks a lot guys for the nice comments. Was expecting at least one off one :)

I left him wrapped up warm in his cage over night as even at 11pm he was still breathing, at one point even moving a bit.

But woke up this morning to find him buried in a little mound of bedding in the corner, rigid as a board :(

RIP

Im thinkin of getting one myself and may ask some advice from you in the future if you dont mind :)

Of course :)

But i do have to ask why you waxed your legs? :o

Hey Steedie, you are not alone of course. They are my little mates!

I love hamsters and my last one was two and a half when she had a stroke, she seemed to get better after a while but then when we moved house the stress seemed to make her have another one, it was heart breaking seeing her not really being able to move, just lying there breathing deeply, the next day I took her across town to the vet and was pretty sure what was going to happen, put her on the vets table and she was trying to run but just kept falling over, it broke my heart, hamsters can recover well from strokes but she'd already had one and she was clearly in some pain. So we had her put to sleep and looking at her after with the tube in her mouth, she was at peace but I've not cried like that before or since.

I was pleased she managed to make it to my new house so we could bury her with us.

It was a few years but I've got a new one now called Winnie and he's two and a half now too, he's starting to slow down a lot, not coming out his house as much and drinking a lot more water, so I'm preparing myself, I don't think I can have another one after this guy.

It doesn't really matter on the size of the animal, the emotional part will be linked to the joy you got out of them.

Best wishes fellow ham lover!

RIP Pingu! So very sad! :(

Absolutely adore my little Guinea Pig (Bokke) - can't even imagine what it would be like to lose him!

Never imagined i'd get so attached to what i thought would be a simple animal but all i've ever been is surprised at how complex and caring he can be.

Thanks for posting the pics and video - he looked like a lovely, fun and friendly little guy! :)

Man I know how hard it is!

When my little hamster died (Vespa her name was) was very hard. She used to sit on my lap and watch me play MW2. When she passed away I had to lay her to rest in a flower pot on the flat balcony.

I got a rescure hamster call Soap now!

Aw man, awful, i know how you get with small pets, when our lop rabbit died suddenly i blabbed more then when i lost a family member i was a mess. We have a syrian called Melvin who is about 6 months now, great little charachters, the way the just stop and look at you is class. RIP pingu

Thanks again guys

I have a flat so don't know what to do in terms of burial. But I might just buy a big plant pot for our balcony.

Schnipps, that was one of the best things about him. Whenever I walked up to his cage and he was awake, he'd run up to the side of the cage and look so excited and just look at me :) :)

RIP Pingu.

I remember my hamster, Hamroll. Had her for 2 years with me at Uni (and 1 year after uni) and everyone loved her, she was like our house’s mascot. When she died though, i like other grown men in this thread, cried like i never have before. Even my dad, who i’ve never, in nearly 23 years, seen cry at anything, cried.

All my family got very attached to her, my dad never really liked small animals but even he used to always get her out of her cage and put her in her ball to run around (and she used to follow you around like a little dog!) and play with her and my mum used to feed her bits of fruit and nuts.

My g/f wants us to get a hamster but i’m not sure, i hate seeing them die. But this thread has made me want another one :o

Just because Pingu wasn’t a dog or cat or w/e doesn’t mean she was part of the family still and it’s very hard to deal with when they suddenly disappear.

R.I.P. Pingu :(

I remember getting my first hamster. Went into Pets At Home to get some bird seed and i went over to the hamster area and there he was... Billy.

He was the cutest little dwarf hamster you've ever seen! I showed my GF and she thought he was cute as well and we decided there and then to adopt him.

He was awesome, though i never got to hold him (he had supersonic speed).

He died about 6 months ago due to a chest infection as well.

It was very sad and he is now buried underneath our tree :(
