Haven't seen that in a while, but back in the early days of windows ME, using a 3DFX Voodoo 5500, this happened a few times until a driver update was released, are you using the latest drivers?
Failing that, look at your Event logs for errors.

Happens to my 8800gts 512 every now and again. Pink or some shade of, can still hear sound and mouse pinter works but everyting else has stalled up.
Reboot and it's normally fine.
Usually take about 5 minutes to happen into a game before it messes up - get past those 5 mins then it'll be fine for hours. So long as it doesn't become a regular occurance I can live with it.
