hi

i loaded up age of conan this morning and immediatly after entering the character select screen i got a pink screen with black triangles doted around the screen. the black triangle stayed stationary but were moving slightly. i could still hear the game music in the background but the system seemed to totally lock up as my g15 keyboard screen was frozen to. upon switching the system off and on again it appears fine again.
ive recently done the mini cpu overclock it my sig and that seems stable after primeing for 10 hours and i gamed virtually all day for for the last few days as im on holliday and have had no other crashes. gpu temps are a bit high sometimes reaching 85 load but i read thats somewhat normal on the gtx 280.
any chance my gpu isnt on its way out - ive only had it a year! thanks for any advice given.
 
Have you tried another game to see if such corruption occurs in all games or only Conan?

Best bet would be to re-install drivers, or change the version of the drivers you are using. If that occurs in other games aswell then unfortunately it is on it's way out. If the card is still under waranty and you have similar issues with other games then send it back :)
 
Have you got an overclock on your graphics card?

This can cause graphical corruption in some cases. Another cause could be excess heat. Make sure that the card is not clogged with dust and that there is adequate airflow throughout the case.

You could always try removing the graphics card HSF and reapplying better quality thermal paste. This should also lower the temperatures at little expense.

yeah its the evga superclocked edition so does have a very small factory overclock on it. yeah i been playing resident evil 5 this morning and the problem hasnt repeated though nor does it on conan now either

i read on another forum that someone had similar graphic corruption to me the first time hed turn his comp on and load up a game but upon reboot it would run fine for the rest of the day -
someone replying said that something on the gpu might be broke but as it heats up the 2 bits that may be broken would expand and put themselves back together fixing the issue, leave the card to cool down however would repeat the problem as whatever is broken would come away again explaing why it would only happen the first time the comp is switched on which is what happened to me. So i'm going to leave my comp off for a few hours and see if i can repeat the issue. if i cant then illl update my drivers and hope its 1 of those freak crashes that never happens again and my cabling is pretty bad in all honesty so ill probably look at that too

well it looks like my theory didnt pan out - still cant get the issue to repeat itself - maybe its just a conan issue after all. if the card is on its way out hopefully it will last until gt300 or at least the 5870x2!
