Had a Schubert C3 for about a month now. The Pinlock insert has worked great up until the last two days where the bottom two corners have starting misting up meaning I can't glance in the mirror without lifting the visor up or bending down towards them. The conditions have been same - cold with lots of moisture in the air and I've been wearing a balaclava the whole time. I haven't fiddled with the insert since I installed it.

Any ideas?

Pinlock is great but it can't do it all. with my pinlock...which tbh could do with replacing...anything below 30 ish and I have to have my visor open a tad otherwise it will start misting up.

However! If you want to see how well it works...take it out ;)

Some are better than others. Try another insert and make sure it's sealed nicely.

They only do so much anyway, unfortunately.

My Shark one is excellent, which really surprises me. I've had previous more expensive helmets that have been worse. Maybe my Shark is just more draughty? :p

Mine is great on my Shark, a great big pile of **** on my C3 Pro and the response from Sports Bike Shop was "Yeah I've got one as well and it's quite common that the pinlock is crap". Not great considering what these lids cost.

The one I have on my clear shoei visor is excellent but the one I have on my other visor is crap and does not make contact at the bottom.

Both are genuine shoei too.

Mine used to be good, but after a couple of years it seems almost pointless. Annoyingly the insert is the one that changes in bright light, so quite expensive to replace :(

Yeah they have their limits, and as they get old and go from cold to warm several hundred times they get stiffer and lose contact with the visor. It'll be that the bead isn't as hard up against the visor as it used to be, either adjust it or get a new one once it gets bad.

I've never used a pinlock, and never had an issue with fogging.

I use a Foggy Mask from Respro - definitely worth checking out.

They're great, won't work on a C3 flip top lid though unfortunately or I'd have gone down that route on mine.

either a new insert or take it out clean both and rub the "lip" of the sinert with a small amount of vaseline to act as a sealant.

Don't use vaseline on it, it's petroleum based and will kill the plastic use silicone grease if you want to try that route.

I'll start with cleaning both parts and go from there.

As for the "Pinlock is not the be all and end all", that can't explain a sudden failure in the system in the same riding conditions where it was working perfectly a day beforehand.

Probably just needs adjusting, normally the only reason mist starts getting behind them is either it very very cold or the bead isn't sitting correctly.

Dropped your lid or anything?

It might just be the cold weather is making the plastic of rhe visor contract making gaps

There should be little black screw things on the pinlock (where it attaches to your visor). Twitst those until there is no gap between the pinlock and the visor. If there's a gap at all, it won't work properly.

Had my pinlock in for 4 years now, never touched it and it works flawlessly. Must be hit and miss but I couldn't be without mine, I don't dare touch it in case it stops working :p

I just give mine a wipe inside if I gets dirty as I ride with my visor up whenever I can.
