Hi, after some earlier advice on the fourms, I have decided to use PVR/DVDR to dub my old VHS tapes (was trying to use a PC).

I am looking for a machine that supports;

Dual-layer recording without interruption (discounts Panasonic which either stops at the end of layer one, or simply doesnt support DL recording from scart inputs). After reading the Pioneer instructions, i believe its support DL recording, can anyone confirm this?

(I'd like DL support, so I can use SP recording for 3 hour tapes)

TBC, I've seen some ads that claim TBC for the pioneer
http://www.avland.co.uk/pioneer/dvr440/dvr440.htm
but the official pioneer website doesnt mention it?

Lastly, will I get better results from using a SVHS player, even though my tapes are normal VHS? You can get JVXC decks on ebay for £35.

Thanks

Yes they do dual layer recording.
SP is 2 hour mode and you won't see a lot of difference if you put it into 3 hr mode which will then fit on a normal blank DVD (unless its football or other quick moving sport).
I'm the proud owner of two Pioneer DVR-530H's and they are the best toys I've bought.
The editing features knocks every other make into touch and I've installed a few.
You won't be disappointed with the 540 and I'm already saving for one so I can demote one of my 530's to the bedroom.

Can you tell me what happens at the layer break?

How recording time do you lose when it changes layer?
