I am possibly after a new headunit, but only a very basic one, a Pioneer DEH-1500UB http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/..._productId_916727_langId_-1_categoryId_165474

So with it's Android support can I then browse through tracks/albums on my phone without interrupting say google maps navigation that would be running at the same time? Would there be an option to mix the music/navigation directions to all come through the car speakers? Or have it coming just through the phone?

Research says the headunit can supply 1Amp through the USB, which although less than my 2Amp TomTom charger, it would be a lot less bulky and a shorter usb cable run!

I currently have an older Pioneer DEH-50UB which iirc cost a lot more than the £55 of the 1500UB is there gooing to be a massive change in sound quality/adjustability of the sound from it? It's only going to power some Fli 6.5" components and stock 5*7 rear speakers so am far from looking for 'amazing' sound, but perhaps don't want to be going way down the range. I'm possibly selling the 50UB to a mate as the rear USB and ipod fits his needs and not mine. Cheap upgrade for me too possibly!

What really annoys me on the 50UB is the volume control is 0-100 rather than 0-30 or 0-50 so to quickly adjust the volume is impossible and you have to spin the kind of hard to reach dial loads :( and with my stalk in the Peugeot 306 it's not quick to change either.

Bit of a ramble over a cheap headunit, but good to see what people here think!

If you're using a navigation app and have music playing in the background then depending on the music app you use on the phone you can choose to mute/pause the music each time a voice sound or short pause comes in and resume music when it's done. PowerAMP has this function built in.

If you're going to be browsing your music from the head unit using the phone as storage only and then have the phone run navigation then that's a bit different as navigation sounds will be going through the phone speaker not the car speakers. The head unit will be reading the phone as a mass storage device. by Android control I think it means it can read Android's MTP protocol so can read the built in storage as it's not seen as a standard mass storage device generally unless it's a Nexus phone.

Drop into a Halfords superstore which should have that unit on display and plug your phone in to test to be certain.

Alternatively get a bluetooth streaming head unit which will route all audio to the car stereo :)

I think your right there, a basic android access rather than 'control' really!
Will try and do the halfords test before buying, check out the volume access to.
