Not up with the latest of technology at all so advice needed .. want to ditch Sky and try and get tv some other way .. normally watch Documentaries and enjoy movies .. have a Pioneer Kuro tv and I don't use 5:1 through the hifi (Denon Avca1 and POA t10) .. any suggestions .. can't be bothered trolling around to see what features there are or compatibility with Nvidia set top box or amazon box etc etc

when i had my kuro up until a few weeks ago i used to raspberry pi with libre elec installed , also had digiplus card for it so could output dts db logic etc :)

we watch loads of tv but we like documentaries and a few channels like sky atlantic but to have them we need to pay heaps for it .. the service from them is terrible but I can't seem to find another way around it .. tried virgin .. blah .. plus there might be loads of channels on sky but we don't watch the majority of them .. like all the kids shows and non english channels .. I've heard about the amazon fire box .. but not rasberry pi ?? way behind the times .. the only thing my hifi gets used for now is the occasional bluray .. shame really

did i mention that I just want something that works out of the box .. I don't mind updating or flashing or coding but I just cant seem to be bothered mucking around these days ... OMG I sound like my parents :-(

If you like Sky - why not try NowTV subscription, on a month by month basis?

It may not have all your documentary channels but for less than £8 /month its very cheap

Boxes are a one off £20 last time I checked, and you get 1 month or two for free

if you want up to date moves then sky is the best option IMO same goes for tv shows.

i have sky, netflix and amazon prime. it's just not possible to get everything in 1 box. well legally anyway.

nowtv means you cannot record anything live, so if you want to watch the show on at 4pm and you don't finish work til 5, then you can't see it. sky is more expensive because it offers much more. plus it's now UHD as well.

primes content is crap IMO, few decent things on there but on it's own it's not worth it. the music and free 1 day delivery is what makes it worth it. netflix is better but it's still not amazing. sky is expensive but it has a lot more but everything is an added extra, sports, movies, etc.

what you are looking for doesn't exist, legally anyway.

Its an on demand service, so there is no need to record anything.

If its on NowTV , it will be on there for several weeks (or even months) - so an hour here or there wont make any difference.

If its not on there, it its completely irrelevent to the discussion anyway
