Pipe blew off, what to do? (e39 cooling system)

Thats my dad's old website, he's not a driving instructor anymore.

Everything on this car works as it should I was just coming up with theories as to why it would do that

Unless he wanted a warm car in the morning before he set off..
Either way, 15 mins seems like a long time to heat up. New thermostat perhaps?

I didn't know what that button meant! Learn something new everyday :)
 
On later E39s it's the Max button, since they have a slightly different climate control unit and do not have a Rest button. Pressing Max with the engine switched off after it's been running and had a chance to warm up will pull the residual engine heat into the cabin, like the Rest function on the earlier cars, if you turn the ignition to position I you can alter the fan then too.
 
Oh I know, I was just filling 'Sukh' in with some more details on the feature. Incase a few people who have E39s that didn't know about this go out and try to use said feature and think, wtf ...I don't have that button :p
 
I've been tempted by a cheep e36 a few times and I'm glad I've read these threads, it seems its not such a good idea :D
 
I blew the top hose...but viscous fan and thermostat (being stuck closed) were the reason mine did it, have you renewed either of them?

I blew the endcap off my 328, the viscous wasnt working. Does the e39 not have the secondary fan that kicks in?
