Hi all!

Our new home purchase is complete so now I want to defend it!

I have been looking at smart alarm systems and Piper is the one standing out to me at the moment, does anyone here have this or anything similar they can suggest?

I have had a look through reviews but a lot of them seem to have been paid off to either point out the positives or negatives.

From my experience stuff like this is just a gimmick.

get yourself on http://www.cts-direct.net/ and buy a proper system such as a Pyronix/Scantronix/Texecom

Then go to http://hdcctv.co.uk/ and buy youself some nice 1080P HD cctv cameras

Budget £800

All of them alarms can be phone controled with an add on GSM module

A potential burglar will see your shiny new cameras and bell boxes and choose an easier house

On second thoughts £800 will buy you a nice composite door and some laminated glass. Good luck to anyone getting in then

This is a timely thread, as I'm also looking for a burglar alarm.

Anybody here had experience with the Texecom Premier Elite series? I like the idea of the key fob for alarm arming and de-arming but don't know how effective it is in practice.

Are these alarms user friendly enough for a diy install?

You can add keyfob activation to anything as most (all?) alarms have a contact to set the alarm. Some have an OEM keyfob add-on but they all do the same thing, they close a contact when you wave a fob at them.

Keyfobs are good, nobody likes pressing buttons which is why most alarms are never set in the first place. People just rely on the box on the wall being a deterrent.

If you can wire up a light switch and build a PC then you can fit an alarm.
They are just a collection of contacts going back to a box, just plan the layout in advance and take advice on where to site one or two dual-tech sensors.
