Hi,

We finally got onto their 8Mb service a couple of months ago (they kept us on 1Mb at ridiculous rates for a long time!) and the service is still very poor.

Whenever I get to use it in the evening or over the weekend, download speed is pathetic. Usually around the 40k/s mark and never push much over 200k/s in total - effectively a 2Mb connection. According to my brother, during the day when I'm at work it's possible to achieve up to 500k/s, which while better is still a far cry from 8Mb, although that may be attributed to our distance from the exchange. I believe they are crippling our connection at peak times as we live in a sparse little village next to a tiny town that can't possibly have the same sort of internet traffic as a city. Besides, a mate of mine who lives a mile or so away gets 6Mb all day everyday with Tiscali. Add to this the fact that they limit bittorrent bandwidth and have poor customer service and I'm not a happy bunny.

So, the question is - who do I go for? I understand a lot of ISPs are placing monthly download limits on users now, but this isn't such a problem for me providing it's reasonable - ie. not a few GB. What I really don't want is for them to limit my bandwidth most of the time, and if I can go with someone who doesn't perform traffic shaping on P2P, all the better. I realise I am probably not going to get any more than maybe 4 - 5Mb, but I want the opportunity to actually benefit from that speed when I use my computer.

I miss my NTL connection :(
Unfortunately I can't get cable over here.

Any suggestions?

Cheers

Zen is far away the best, i was on them (like you i am on Pipex now :(). But they cost more, in some package about 50% more for the same speed than most ISP. but Customer Service is amazing and the connection is fast and stable.
