Hi guys

I was a pipex customer for 3 years but cancelled my account last decemeber. I called their customer services to do it and recieved my cancellation letter then moved to NTL.

All was well until i got my last bank statement and noticed that they have charged me 70quid over may and june. I called their customer service and they eventually agreed something may be wrong. I have now been told it may take over 6 weeks for this money to be returned to me! As a recently graduated student i have exactly 13 quid in the bank. Needless to say 70quid means quite a bit to me.

Should i phone up again and give em hell about returning it sooner or do i have no chance of seeing that cash?

Unfortunatly its a debit card i paid with and as such the bank dont care :(

Was this paid by Direct Debit? If so, your bank have to give you an immediate refund on the disputed amount? Otherwise call Pipex up and inform them that they have messed up by taking money after you cancelled and you want the refund today. You are well within your rights to ask for interest on the money as well - whether or not you'll get them to pay that is another story though.

i paid via debit card and not through a direct debit, and wont make that mistake again. Just off the phone to pipex, i have been told that they absolutely can't repay me until a month at the earliest, as they have a massive backlog at their financial services division. I asked to speak to a manager reguarding this matter and was told there was no chance. The assistant told me that should i go overdrawn as a result of this accidental charge (theft) they MAY be able to compensate me. I have asked for a letter confirming this from their financial department but wont hold my breath.

Id like to warn anyone who considered joining pipex to think again, maybe this is an isolated case, however im furious with their treatment of the problem.
