Are there any pipex users suffering from slow internet between 5pm and 7pm on Weekdays?

My line was meant to be upgraded to 8Mb about 10 months ago but nothing has happened. I am wondering if all users are being 'capped'.

I'm on 2meg mines fine though i'm trying to leave and get my MAC code. I sent a request via E-mail yet they sent one back saying i needed to ring so u've sent one back with a quote from there site that says you can request via email. Total joke they are!

Sooner i can leave the better they were once good but now

They seem to port throttle from around 6pm-12am so maybe thats the problem?

It's not just port throttling - they throttle based on packet inspection. All p2p traffic as well as encrypted traffic is throttled during these times (also depending on how heavy a user you are, they will throttle this traffic the rest of the time as well - I think it's a pathetic 10 GB / month which puts you in their "heavy users" group...)

I too am awaiting my mac code...

This sounds like two unrelated questions. Are you on MAX or are you still on a fixed speed service like 2Mb.

Follow Trifid's advice and let us know the results. You might have to run the test in the morning because it often doesn't work at busy times.

If i were you id get your MAC code and get out before your only allowed to browse and read e-mails, you've got no hope of downloading, online gaming etc... once Tiscali start. :(

My ISP is F2S whom is owned by Pipex and I do notice slow downs during the evening times, I'm supposedly on their 8mb connection. Below is the results I got from the BT link:

Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
IP profile for your line is - 6500 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 7616 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 6258 kbps

Think yourselves lucky!! ;) Mine is royally messed up and pipex won't fix it.

Your line is working perfectly then. It is an 'up to' 8Mb service, depending on both your phone line and on contention - ie. at busy times, more users online = less bandwidth to go around. You will get this with any ISP.

Yeah those test results are good because it was 1:30am at the time. Pretty sure my contention is 50:1 so it does effect me during the daytime. My old ISP was 20:1 if I remember rightly, but became too expensive.

20:1 and 50:1 vanished over 2 years ago.

BT only quote that the business products (Max Premium and Office) will get priority at times of peak traffic, no more contention ratios quoted.

I am on the fixed service. 1Mb broadband and I want to download big ISO files as I am downloading a linux os for my friend.

I am going to look at switching the service as it is just unacceptable!
