Quick question.

I have an alleyway that I intend to light up with 3 lights.
These lights will be activated by PIR.

Can I buy 3 separate PIR lights and use the PIR from each to trigger all 3 lights or do I have to buy a separate PIR unit to trigger them all ?

The alleyway is very narrow and about 12metres long so I am not sure if I can get a PIR that will trigger from 6m away at almost an 180degree angle.

You can do either,

use 3 lights with PIRs and wire them to all activate each other or use 3 lights and 2 standalone PIR sensors.

This is probably the better option because you dont have to worry about the pir being overloaded running 3 lights when its designed for 1 although with halogen you can just buy 500w fittings and use 3 120w bulbs etc to avoid that.

If using LED lights the pir might have less tolerance to overload and LED flood are easier to get without PIR so best to use standalone PIR sensor - often LED floods are prewired so you cant alter to wire them in 3 core to trigger other lights etc

I would just get 3 LED floods and 2 Decent standalone PIRs like steinel and put 1 on each corner of alley and wire in 3 core so either sensor activates the floods.

The cheaper pirs advertise 8 or 12m range but its shorter than this, steinel go upto 20m and offer lots of options like 360 & corner mount plates

Mounting it high above the alley and pointing it straight down would also work,

a PIR with a >100deg coverage and a solid >8m range would cover the space.
