PIR sensors / "wireless" switches instead of pull cords for bathroom W/C? Thoughts?

Has anyone got experience with PIR/microwave sensors for bathrooms (w/c) instead of pull cords?

What about wireless switches for the outside of the room?

I was going to change to a microwave switch so it automatically turns on (up to 12 mins apparently)

The current pull cord gets caught in the door. Ive recently had the door refitted and moved to its new opening position. I'm going to move the cable for the. Microwave to the "left" in the 2nd photo / above the sink so if i decide to change the microwave switch back to a pull cord in future then I have the option.

- are pullcords normally tied to ceiling joists? I realise that's why it's in its current position.

The reason it's not on outside switch is there's steelwork above the door wall and no available option for placement (I presume - blame the previous owner)

Is there an optimal placement /position for a PIR/microwave switch? I like the idea of having it out the way.

Note that above this room will be a tiled bathroom and shower tray so will be almost impossible for access.

- yes this bathroom is ugly and needs a coat of paint!

Currently thinking of going for this microwave switch - I've purposefully not gone for recessed options incase I find it a pain /wanna change back to pullcord.

Above this room is a shower /bathroom which puts me off having a "wireless switch receiver".

Note I know that I require a neutral and live/switched live for PIRs/microwave switches, as I have the boards up above I can take the neutral from the existing fitting.

Quinetic Wireless stuff is usually quite good and will give you a switch on the outside of the door if you want to try that option. However if you're going to the effort of relocating the switch you have a few more options available to you.

Assume it’s just the light switch and there’s no hidden shower in there?! Don’t think so as you said WC?

I’ve got PIRs in our toilet and bathroom. Works perfectly well - same size as an LED downlight and just as easy to fit. Just as easy to remove and fill over too if you don’t like it!!

Mind is ask where you got your door and door handles from? We have the same but need a new one for a new doorway we are putting in

Thanks

The door is from climadoor (also trade under vibrant doors) it is called a Mexicano 5panel door. It's actually from a supplier called LPD

The handles are from climadoor, their "Bakewell" set

Aye just the toilet in this one.

OK sounds good. The one I've bought is surface mounted rather than recessed, as I know you can filler what you holesaw but feel it'll never look quite righ after if I change my mind

or get a bulb with integrated motion sensor -
I really want a smart bulb solution which also schedules bulb so that it is dimmed at (middle of) night time.

Philips Hue should be able to do that, or an Alexa routine which I think you can schedule now

Thanks will book mark them

I've Hue motion sensors in the hallway, on the top of the landing, and the bathroom for doing this.

Works great. They're wireless so simple to mount and move and in the ~two years I've had them set-up I haven't replaced the batteries once.

And a simple solution.

Why they can't do this out the box i don't know, it's really annoying.

I managed to get this working with Home Assistant running on a Raspberry Pi 4 using the Adaptive Lighting plugin (it has a GUI configuration to make it simple).

When a bulb turns on it fades the temperature to match the time of day and keeps updating it throughout the day. E.g., if I turned it on at 9am it would be bright white, then slowly dims to warm white over the day.

I can still manually override the brightness/temperature with the Hue app and it doesn't interfere.

for OP, if a hue bulb and pir can be linked without having a RPI, or hub of some sort, that could be an easier install, probably cheaper too
... and dimming as icing on the cake with investment in hub to run some code

I've replaced the pull cord switch in our garage with a PIR switch on a surface mounted patress. Not elegant but easily replaced :)

Hue can do this with the Time Based Light app in Hue Labs.
