After many people admitting that they have never downloaded a legal mp3 before I just wondering what percentage of people download illegal content (mp3, films, tv, games etc).
and how many peoples views are changing.

Was wondering if we could get a poll.

  • I'm a serial copy right infringer.
  • I still download illegal content but also buy from legit sources
  • I used to be a piracy addict but have since deleted the files and am now all genuine
  • I have never downloaded illegal content.

Personally I used to do it but haven't for a few years and since Sky songs was released I deleted my entire collection (even though some where from cd) and started a fresh.

I think it use to be social accepted, now it's becoming the opposite. I think hat the industry has finally court up with illegal content. Lovefilm offering unlimited dvds and film downloads, things like zune and sky songs offering a monthly charge for unlimited streaming + 10 or 15 tracks a month at 320kb with no DRM

I don't download illegal content. I earn my living producing one of the kinds of things mentioned above, and I think others have the right to do the same.

There isn't a poll at all yet, anonymous or otherwise :p

As for the idea it used to be more accepted and becoming less so, I think the opposite. I think it is gradually becoming more socially acceptable and that is exactly why record companies, film producers etc. are trying harder than ever to clamp down on it.

Unless you also upload then it is only civil law not criminal and it's not like uploading video evidence of doing 150mph on a road.

I know what goes on! If I get dragged from my bed, beaten and tied to a chair in an empty warehouse and forced under a spot line to confess then the blood is on your hands!

I only buy games.

Because I think the gaming industry needs a break, game designers (the good ones, not movie games.. pfft) break their back to bring us cutting edge gaming. While people like Joe Mcelderberry get thrown a million pounds for wining a singing contest. 3D programming, software programming are highly technical skills that take years upon years to fully develop and they're certinaly not driving around in hummers.

The film and music industry needs to be taken down a fair few pegs. They produce entertainment, sure, but not to the level they are paid for it.

They only paid if you buy stuff, why would you buy stuff you don't like. At typically under 50p per song it is not even expensive.

Really? 7 years ago almsot everyone did. Now pretty mcuh everyone I know no buys from legit sources like Itunes, steam or any number of online providers.

My experience is the opposite. 7 years ago when most people would have to know Bent Barry down the pub or Dodgy Dave down the market to get ripped off stuff, not as many did it.

Now that every man and his dog can download an album in a few minutes or less with virtually no technical know how at all, completely for free, loads of people I know do it.

.

7 years ago was the hight of things like lime-wire and napster. Also before court cases which has put a lot of casual down-loaders of.

Who's they? The absolute majority of people in the music and film industries are not paid well at all and there are just as many monied executives in the games industry.

Looking at some actors at the top is not an accurate representation of pay levels in the film industry. Not to mention filmmakers struggle just as much to get funding and all the rest of it.

True but I think when torrents became mainstream the issue became worse.

Over the past year or so it has become slightly better probably down to non tech people getting scared of being caught or because the industry have started providing download services
