PISTONHEADS SHOW VIDEO
Experience the PistonHeads show through the power of video.

Picture taken by: robemcdonaldWhen we were at the PistonHeads Show last weekend, PHer and video genius Dave Dwyer of Northern Loop Productions asked if we would like some video shooting for the site. We reckoned that was a great idea, and he stayed with us for the entire show and put together this video.

Despite Dave's skills behind the camera, nothing can hide the fact that the PH team lack presenting skills- spot some obvious mistakes made by Ollie, laugh at our odd voices, and boy do I wave my arms around when I talk- but most of all, watch it to see what the show was all about.

Tens of thousands of you made the trip to the NEC, and we thank every one of you, for those that didn't make it this time we hope to see you in 2009 with a much bigger and better show.

Looked like a good show, plenty of eye candy there!

One suggestion though Dangerous - Invest in a good video tripid.
I noticed you used a tripod at the tech9 stand but when you pan out from a shot of the cars it looks like the head was set too tight because you can see the horizontal and vertical movement of the camera instead of it being a fluid motion. Some of the shots were a bit shakey without the tripod and I reckon if you can smooth out the panning and zooming you'll be not far off a very professional look with your videos.

One thing that's just occurred to me also is that the colour balance is off in the video. If you don't have one, I suggest you get a greycard and custom balance your white balance when shooting under artificial lighting as it makes a huge difference to the apparent quality of the footage.

not watched the video as I'm at workbut a good fluid head on a decent tripod does make a very big difference....one that comes to mind is a Velbon DV7000, it's under 100 quid but bloomin sturdy and has a gorgeous fluid movement in the head......such good value compared to manfrotto etc

Also, I personally suggest an Expodisc, they work easier and imo more accurately than grey cards too, just pop it infront of the lens, point at light source and set your white frame with that :) fantastically easy and accurate.

I do have a tripod but don’t use it that often- it wasn’t cheap either! With more use of the tripod I shall get the panning and zooming sorted.

I do need to sort out the colour balance but haven’t got around to it.

I don't do much indoor stuff that’s why I haven't sorted these but that’s about to change as I'm looking to do a lot more indoor work and general work with my camera.

It's a nice video, wish I could have gone!

One thing though, I think in all your videos you overuse the zoomed in, then zoom out technique. Other than that, very nice editing and the quality on that camera is impressive!
