I want to watch F1 using the F1 TV subscription. It is geolocked and won`t work in the UK.

However I have a very good friend who lives abroad who will allow me to run a VPN on his netwok, so my TV and F1 TV will think I`m abroad and will work. I don`t want to access his local devices on his home network.

Initially, I was going to setup a PiVpn running wireguard (I already run one at home for internet access when I`m on holiday), he would plug that into his router, allow port forwarding in his router. I would buy a small travel router at my end, setup Wireguard on that, plug it into my router and also into the TV LAN port.

So basically, it`ll be like this as far as my TV is concerned.

TV > Travel Router (with Wireguard) > My Home Router > Internet > His ISP Router > PiVpn (to Wireguard) > Internet overseas IP address

What I`m asking is if there is a hardware device instead of the PiVpn, something he can simply plugin and setup with a VPN.

Would a travel-router at my house and at his end work ? It won`t be used for anything else, purely my TV to watch F1 TV

Have I even explained what I`m doing clearly ? :D

It would work, but last season I was using Windscribe VPN and F1 TV worked fine with it.
I thought F1 was clamping down on VPN`s and blocking whole ranges of IP addresses ?

That`s why I was looking at going this way. He`s absolutely fine with it and once setup, I know F1 would never block it.

I've no idea, I assume these VPN providers are aware that 99% of their income is from people swerving region locks and it's in their own interest to keep fighting the battle. F1 TV only need to do enough to be able to demonstrate to people like Sky that they are trying to combat the issue, but they won't go too hard on it because the last thing they want is to hit a legit customer.

That could be the case, but I have an option here that would definitely work and wouldn't be on the vpn blacklist F1 keep updating.
