This is kind of a follow up to a previous thread I made. I was having the problem that videos are stretched when played on my widescreen TV. There is an option in media player 11 that sounds like it should fix it, but it does nothing.

If you go to tools->options->devices->display->properties there is a slide bar to change the pixel aspect ratio. I have played around with this but nothing I do has any effect on the image. Does this option work for anyone else? It would be the perfect solution to my problem if only it did anything.

lol can't post a thread about WMP with someone suggesting to try VLC. Well there are a few reasons why I don't use VLC for many things. It plays choppy on my TV.

Can someone just try this option to see if it does anything? I just want to know whether it's something specific to my set up or whether it's a broken feature.

edit - also VLC still isn't perfect, you can only set specific aspect ratios, you can't freely alter it.

Could someone help out please? It should only take a minute to check this pixel aspect ratio thing does anything.

Just tried it with a Madgasga HD preview WMV. Increasing the value above 1 decreases the horizontal width of the video making charactors taller and thinner.

Works for me.

This is on XP I will try it on Vista RC2 but I can only do it on x32 as I don't have access to a 64 bit processor.

Give me five to reboot and see what happens.

Ok with Vista RC2 Build 5744 x32.

Does not have any effect on the video at all. So seems to only work under XP for me at least.

Hope this is of help.
