Pixelated Desktop

Hello,

I recently built a new computer from scratch and been slightly confused by what now seems to be the desktop looking pixelated.

The monitor im using is a Samsung 26" LE26R7, Video Card is a Ati 4870 Power Colour.

When i first started up the pc i decided to run the monitor via HDMI for the first time, in the past i have always used VGA.

But when using HDMI my desktop looks slightly pixelated, making text quite hard to read sometimes.

Today i have changed round from HDMI to VGA and it is now crisp clear!

This confuses me as i would have thought HDMI would always give me a much better picture than VGA...

In games however when on HDMI it looks great, its very clear.

So im wondering will i be gaining any disadvantages by using VGA instead of HDMI?

Thanks

are you using a standard resolution, try the next setting down and see how it looks you might not be using a wide enough or tall enough resolution relatively speaking.

Hi,

I have tried experimenting with all the different resoloutions.

I have always used 1360 x 768 which always has looked good for my monitor. I tried quite a few from the start up too i think it was 1920 x 1080 i think.

I have it at 1360 x 768 at the moment via VGA and it looks very clear, however as soon as its switched to HDMI looks pixelated.

I have come to a solution so far i think. My 4870 has 2 outputs, so i have one of the outputs going to the HDMI port of the monitor and one going to the the VGA slot. This works well for me as i can use the HDMI for games and VGA on the desktop.

Would using both of the outputs of the GPU bottleneck my performance in anyway way, even if i am only using one at a time?

Thanks

I would have thought that anything short of a monitor's native resolution would look pretty poor, to be honest.
