Ok guys i know what your going to say a pointless upgrade! well i would agree as the PK5 Premium Black pearl only offers voltage regulation improvments and stronger caps over the PK5 deluxe, but considering they are so close on price iam surprised the deluxe hasnt been droped by asus yet.

Anyway reason for changing you may have read this thread in the CPU forum of killing my QX6700 with 1.5v

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17772494

Well i bought another Q6600 and it has been running in my PK5 deluxe since first instalation, removed yesterday for lapping and then re installed and again running fine. well last night when i was just going to get myself off to bed it reset!!!! then wouldnt restart just like my QX6700 and i was thinking WTF not another quad dead, then like a plonker i thought thats it iam gona swap the board out for the PK5 premium as i cant belive 2 CPU's are dead or it could be worse the board has taken out 2 CPU's. 1 last try on the PK5 deluxe.

anyway another remount of the CPU in the PK5 deluxe before i start and wam it fires up like nothings happened all. So iam sitting here thinking wtf is going on, then gave the D-tek fuzion a wiggle and instant shut off.

So somthing is definatly not right with the PK5 deluxe around the socket area so i remove the PK5 deluxe, remove all my water cooling and blocks from the M/B and then go about building the PK5 premium board up removing the heat pipe setup and swaping for my water blocks ect

Things i noticed in direct comparison against the premium is under the CPU socket is a diffrent layout and around the socket itself on the premium is diffrent to the deluxe. anyway after what seemed ages geting the board ready to install i poped in the Q6600 installed the board and went straight into the bios and set it to the exact same settings as the deluxe and it boots first time and behaves like nothing has changed, even windows vista X64 didnt complain about a new motherboard.

So feeling pleased everything is back to normal i had a thought!!!!!!!
I should pop in my QX6700 as i thought it was dead yet i had same issue with GO mmm its late can i be arsed, well yea i can as it would be real good if it lives!

AND YES THE GOOD NEWS IS IT DOES LIVE!!!!!! oh yes the QX6700 lives and i was going to drill a hole in that and make me a keyring:rolleyes:

So after a week or so of stability, to wont even boot it looks like my PK5 deluxe has a dry joint or somthing around the CPU socket. checked for bent pins ect and it looks perfect, still i would sooner have a duff M/board than a dead QX6700.

one last thing, the premium board runs cooler round the socket now. must be the re designed power regulation around the socket area. asus must have found somthing or they wouldnt have changed it. as they are so close in price i would recomend picking up the premium over the deluxe version as its updates must have been done for a reason, asus make claim to cleaner power regulation on the premium so somthing to consider if your thinking of buying the deluxe PK5

anyway iam a happy chappy as my QX6700 lives! now what do i do with it!
