Nealry all my parts are in, so this weekend I will be hopefully starting and completing my first 'ground up' new build in almost 5 years. My last build, took me nearly 2 weeks because I had to RMA both my motherboard and my PSU. But in the end my rig ran like a dream and has ever since.

So, the specs are:

4670K
VI Gene
H100i
7970 Matrix Plat
8Gb Vengeance Pro
Seasonic G-550
350D

What are the general stats for build success these days? Still pretty much luck of the draw or are components any more reliable than they use to be?

I'd be interested to here some opinions/experiences

I've found AMD builds a bit more hit and miss than Intel, particularly with motherboard compatibility issues. Intel stuff just seems to work better out of the box.

Assuming you checked the bits were compatible (at a glance looks ok) then it should all just work, not had a duff part in some years in desktops. Laptops I've had less luck with though, so perhaps it's just been a skewed distribution for me and they're still a touch less than perfect. Having to RMA your mobo & your PSU sounds like pretty bad luck :(
