Hi, mate wants to organise a weekend trekking somewhere and suggested Snowdon but personally it's not my favourite place as unless you go off season, and then get lucky with the weather, as the place is bloody heaving and it's like walking up a football match.

Any suggestions of places that are similar but not so touristy/busy?

I'm in East Anglia, one Hatfield one near Dunstable and dont mind a drive but maybe somewhere like the lake District a bit far.

Anywhere South Yorkshire/West Midlands maybe, or Gloucester Wye valley etc, just to keep the driving down a bit.

I remember walking actually somewhere around the Wye valley as a kid and remember it being really nice, but that would have been a long time ago so I can't remember exactly where.

There are loads of places around Eryri/Snowdonia that aren't busy like Snowdon.

The Nantile Ridge for instance. https://walk-snowdonia.co.uk/rridge.php

Or even just heading up Snowdon from one of the less popular routes like up the South ridge from Rhyd Ddu.

Peak District has some nice long walks over the moors up on Kinder Scout and further north at Bleaklow.

I'm a bit biased towards mountainous areas though, probably loads of good coastal walks too that are less busy than the national park hills.

White Peak rather than the Dark peak which is full of people who talk funny from Manchester and folk who drop litter everywhere from Sheffield :), Birchover would be a nice base to start exploring.
