[start rant]

So I'm trying to order a 1tb hdd and a spiffing new HD3870.

I'm putting in my card details.

First off the system doesn't recognise the issue number of my card. That's no real issue as I noted when HSBC sent me this replacement that the issue number was the same as my last cards so up it a notch and that works fine.

Then I get to MasterCards SecureCode... WTF is that all about over and over and over I'm putting my damn details in and over and over and over again it's telling me to go **** myself.

I'm having a stress. I have tryed over and over for an hour and my head is about ready to burst open. I have to wonder if this happens to other people do they just go elsewere...

I even spent 20 mins on the phone to HSBC not even hearing a human voice and listening to the same track over and over and over and over.. I think that's where my headake came from.... I'll have another when my mobile bill comes in I imagen.

Isn't buying online meant to be easyer than this..

[end rant]

Ah well any sujestions would be very much welcomed. Maybe I can just call my order in?

It was very similar the first time I came accross "barclaycard secure", I dont remember ever signing up to it, I'm very meticulous about logging everything I register for and the username and password, but barclycard secure managed to come up with a username and password for me without me having any input, the only difference is at barclays someone answered the phone and sorted it out in less than 5 mins :)

Maybe I'll have to rip HSBC appart tomorrow... Thing is I have never signed up for this SecureCode malarkey and it claims to be optonal. Really I could have done without this after a days work. I'll ring OCUK tomorrow see if they will take payment over the phone and make my life easyer...

Yep I got the securecode thing whenever I use HSBC maestro and master cards. It should give you an option to sign up username and password on the same screen before the order is approved.

Neither problem you listed is the fault of OcUK. The Secure Code (or similarly named) is an optional extra provided by your bank/building society, which you can sign up for, to help prevent fraud.

Give us a call tommorrow on the sales line and we will be happy to help. :)

Excelent. Cheers for that :)

I didn't think it was tbh just having a stress. ;) I didn't sign up for that with my bank though. I'll have to have a word with them about that.

i had same problem with the securecode thing. after ages on the phone to hsbc and more failed attempts i gave up and ordered somehwere else.

You really should sort out the "Verified by....." issue you are having.
Many banks are moving to make this a mandatory step when ordering online.
It prevents fraud - where as getting hold of somebody's credit card/debit card is relatively easy, finding out somebody's password is not.

In the same way that entering your PIN at a chip & pin nearly always confirms that it is an authorised transaction, so "verified by" will confirm the same online.

I'd really suggest you get it sorted now when it is still just an option rather then when you've got no choice and you need things in a hurry.

Well this is sorted I rang OCUK this morning and ordered over the phone :p now it's just a matter of waiting for my toys :p

Call of Juarez may keep me busy for a bit too :)

The crap with HSBC will have to be sorted at some point too so I'll look at that in the week.

Cheers for your sujections. TMS

I had the same problems with HSBC when ordering here a few weeks back. Took me about 10 mins to track down the right number to call and another 10 mins to find my way through the maze of options until I reached someone in India. My transaction had been blocked for 'suspicious activity'. They did sort it out in moments though it must be said, but it was hassle I could have done without.

But when they do "somehow" get your password for secure code authentication, and use your card, and you bank with natwest/RBS, then the majority of the time you wont get your money back. lol.

I used to be a manager with them 5 months ago in Chargebacks, and we never gave money back for secure transactions even when the cardholder vehemently denied participation.

But it will stop a lot of fraud, but like everything can be exploited some how.

I had the same problem when i ordered my comp with barclays. They were stopping my payment because it had been flagged as a potential fraudulent purchase. I rang them up, they were very apolagetic and sorted it all out. Im guessing HSBC has done the same thing to you :p
