Placing speakers behind an LCD monitor

I have an LCD 19" television/monitor and the speaker quality is horrible. I'm thinking about getting some inexpensive PC speakers to use in lieu of the TV speakers, but am very limited on space. I have a couple inches to spare directly behind the TV, but I'm not sure if speakers will have any effect on the display. I figure if they are proper PC speakers like the Altec Lansing BXR1120 Audio System they should be shielded and won't have a problem.

Has anyone else placed speakers very close to the rear of their monitors like this? Or is there another clever way to get better quality sound from the TV?

It will be fine. LCD's are not effected as crts were.

I was hoping that was the case. I ended up clearing out around the sides of the TV instead and getting a cute little 2.1 system. It sounds terrific and fits in well with the 19".

Sound quality on my family room LCD is awful, so got a logitech 2.1 channel setup and now sounds lovely for not a lot of cash.
