I have just finished my Computer Science degree and was lucky enough to pass reasonably well. However not everyone was as lucky and are doing resit assignments and exams over the summer.

Today I got a facebook message from one of the other students that passed well (we shall call him Dave) saying that he had been asked by one of the failed students (lets call him Phil) offering to pay him to do the resit assignment, Dave said no straight away but Phil then asked Dave to ask me if I would do it.

I'm not going to do the assignment for him as I am about to do a PGCE and getting involved in plagiarism doesn't really seem like a good way to start it!

So the question is, should I let the university know what Phil is doing or just leave it alone? I am doing some work for one of the lecturers over the summer so will have plenty of contact with them if that makes any difference?

Just say no, keep your morales, and feel bad for the lack of his. He will get his own one day!

inb4 10 years time, student who has plagarised is earning double that of what OP earns :p

Well done on passing your Comp Sci degree. Good luck with your PCGE.

As far as Phil goes, I would simply leave it alone. Do not get involved at all, just tell Dave to say you are not interested and leave it at that.

Thanks and thanks, looking forward to it!

Does it make a difference that I am also employed by the University at the moment? I have already told Dave no thanks!

Would you still say that if "phil" was short for Phillipa and she was willing to show her gratitude in several inventive ways and so was her open minded twin sister? just curious.

Sadly that is not the case, not that I would have course, being happily married! :D

I would simply let it lie. Phil is a bit foolish to ask if you are employed by the University, but as he asked through a proxy he could simply deny everything and leave you in the lurch.

It is likely, in my opinion, that after several people have told him no that he will drop the matter anyway and do the assignment himself.

I'd be pretty tempted... To grass him up.

e: It just rubs me up the wrong that genuine students can struggle to get their degree then some loser goes and pays someone else to get their grades.

Congrats on the pass :).

Personally, I'd just refuse & leave it at that - the only thing which would make me call somebody out would be if they were about to join a profession which has the life of others in their hands (doctors for example).
