Planescape Torment Re-Release

And I got £45 for mine this year on Ebay as well ;)

I might be tempted to buy it back again though.

And you very likely would still get that after this remake releases. The Black Isle games have a devoted following, and an original 4 disc big box release, mint and complete is what the collectors are after, not the two disc "combo pack" release and not a "greatest hits" type of release that this DVD is.

This reissue is really nice for those who don't have the original or can't run it for whatever reason, and hopefully will have some updates to the code. That said, I have run the original on XP and Vista with no issues and with the hi-res patch the game looks much better.

It is a unique and quirky game, with what many consider to be the best written storyline and some of the deepest character development in gaming. It is not for those who don't like to read, as there is a LOT of reading, and you miss what makes Planescape different if you just click through it blindly. The game feels like a lot of "developer love" went into creating it, no doubt of that.

Get in!

I've got the original, might have to get it ebayed! :D

Is it going to support modern resolutions? If not then I am not playing this in 800x600 ever again.

The game already supports 1280*800/720/1024, you just have to apply the mods. And it looks like it was natively made in that res, everything is properly displayed! You can even use higher res, but in that case it will not look correctly, the graphics has been updated only for 1280*x (it is too much work to redraw every piece of everything for every res).

I played it in 1280*800 on my 24" LCD and it looked well and played well.

If it's the same engine style as BG2 then you can get the widescreen mods that will increase the area of play to maximum, then fill the rest of the screen with ambient UI.

That is true but as stated above, there are misalignments that will appear if you use 'big's mod' on its own. However, by using 'ghost dogs' UI fix after the widescreen mod this will be fixed and it looks great. Current supported max res is 1280 x 800 (which looks fine on even the bigger screens), you can even select a bigger font size if needed.

I'm interested to know what updates will be included with the new DVD release and really hope they will not just use an emulator to get round the incompatibility issues.
