Currently in the market for a new PC, tempted to purchase it with OCUK, however am currently browsing elsewhere. Budget is from £1000 to £1600. What I would like to know is, what would I need in order to run Planetside 2 comfortably on high settings?

Thanks for all your help in advance.

The game isn't optimized to the best of it's ability yet especially in terms of CPU power. When you say 'purchase' do you mean a whole system or parts?
On my 3570k and 7850 I play on medium-high and get as low as 30fps when in fighting areas. 50 is the average I reckon for me.

With that sort of budget I'd highly recommend an Intel build.
Something like this:

Big fan of the "Ultima 9800i Phantom" Intel Core i7 3770K 3.50GHz @ 4.40GHz DDR3 Gaming PC

Another quick question. I plan on using an inbuilt 'wifi' PCI card, are these prone to over heating when under high stress?

Nope, you should be fine. If it were me, I'd rather go with the Titan 8900i, as the difference is not massive between the two. Perhaps spend the money saved on a great monitor or keyboard for example. The case is a slight let-down though in comparison to the Ultima 9800i Phantom.

Agreed, thanks for all your help. Where do you think my FPS will be sitting for Planetside 2 on medium-high settings? I understand they still have along way to go until optimized.

Well the Titan 8900i is better than my computer and I can play Planetside 2 on max just fine :p

Never really been in a HUGE gunfight though so should be able to do most settings high easily.

As mentioned... PS2 is not yet optimised. Don't think your PC isn't powerful enough to play it.. because it is :-) Just give them time to work out the issues.

Not really, some people have problems running it, most dont. Been in massive firefights with my spec, never had an issue frame rate wise. The major problem for me is engine related, in that it decides it doesnt want to draw enemy at a certain distance when theres more than 500 people in a certain radius. Id rather not see friendlies! Ah well, otherwise youll be fine.

Just don't trust myself to be honest, and I don't really have much spare time. Overclockers don't seem over-priced at all though compared to other retailers.

What you could do is post in General hardware spec saying build be a computer for x amount, get parts spec'd for you then post in overclockers customer service section and ask 5UB how much it would cost to get overclokers to part it together for you and ship it.

im sure they do custom builds, or atleast would get it as close as to the spec as possible.

if not that titan pc looks brilliant but i would personally dump the 36 month warranty on it. PC like that will last you 3 years easy and you want it covered through out

+1. Have same specs. 2000 players on at one time. Beats battlefields max 64! What a beautiful game for free!
